Cool Healthy Summer Snacks for the Kids

As summer has continued on I’m sure many of your routines (as mine) have slowly been falling apart. Busy summer plans seem to cause eating out and not eating healthy to be happy more often.

During the school year it is much easier to pack healthy snacks for the kiddos and send them to school, but it is very important to keep your kids healthy all summer long. As they are still growing, keeping in tact with healthy snacks is vital their health and well being.

Here are some quick summer snacks that you and your kids will love!

Frozen Yogurt:

Yogurt is very convenient because it comes in single serving packages, can be purchased in your favorite flavors and if you freeze it, it is just as good as an ice cream snacks but with much healthier benefits. It tastes so similar to ice cream, your kids wont believe that you are letting them eat “ice-cream” as a healthy snack. Just throw a few yogurts in the freezer in the morning and then will be perfect for an afternoon snack to cool off! Frozen yogurt tubes are great alternative to cups of yogurt because is saves the mess!

Hummus and Guacamole:

Studies have shown that dipping is a great way to get kids to take in vegetables. Celery, cucumber, peppers, and carrots are perfect to dip in hummus and guac and quick snack to serve when your kids come home exhausted from daycare or the beach!

Yogurt and Fruit Parfaits:

Your kids can help make these yummy parfaits and its an awesome way to get tiny hands in the kitchen! Plain greek yogurt mixed with some honey and fruit (Strawberries, raspberries, blackberries, blueberries, etc.) is so yummy, so easy to make, and a perfectly healthy snack.

Ants on a log:

When I was a kid my mom always made ants on a log and it was one of my favorite snacks. It’s a good way to have a laugh and a fun healthy snack that a little helper is welcome to join in for. Just cut up a few pieces of celery, spread some peanut butter *substitute sunflower butter for allergies, and top with some raisins! Voila happiness on a log!
