Welcome to the month of April!

 

Spring is finally here! The children will be spending more time outdoors now that the nice weather has finally arrived.

 

This month we will be celebrating the Week Of The Young Child, the week of April 16-20. Each classroom will be planning fun, creative activities for the children to enjoy. More information will soon be posted in each classroom.

 

Celebrating a birthday this month is Ms. Monica in Crawlers on 4/5! Happy Birthday!

 

 

Infants: 

 

This month we will continue to work on developing trusting and positive relationships with caregivers. We will also work on sense of self by helping develop awareness of themselves as a n individual having their own unique thoughts and feelings.

 

Classroom Special Events: Tuesday, April 17 is blue and white day. Wear something blue or white.

 

Family Engagement Activity: Mommy and Me Yoga. Please go over the Mommy and Me Yoga paper and see if you would like to try and of the yoga. Bonding with your baby in a new way, spiritually and physically.

 

Happy 1st birthday to… Thomas on 4/6, Adelyn on 4/24 and Joseph on 4/25!!!!

 

 

 

Crawlers:

 

This month the children will be working on language – children notice and discriminate the sounds of spoken language. We will also will continue to expose the children to a variety of fun books – Children demonstrate book awareness and knowledge of basic print conventions. They will begin to understand that print carries meaning and spoken words are represented by text.

 

Family Engagement Activity: Please write down your favorite Easter memory and send it in. This can also be more of an Easter tradition.

 

Classroom Special Events:  Easter Egg Hunt, on Friday, March 30th.

Young Toddlers:

Physical Health and Motor Development: Children engage in structured and unstructured physical activity. Social and Emotional Development: Children develop an awareness of themselves as individuals with unique thoughts, feelings and perspectives.

 

 

Classroom Special Event: Special Week Of the Young Child Activities 4/16-4/20

 

 

Family Engagement Activity: Please bring in a picture of your family’s favorite spring activity. It can be a family photo, a clip from a magazine, newspaper or a picture printed from the internet. We will talk about all the of the different spring activities and get the children ready for the warmer weather

Older Toddlers/Young 3s:

 

In math: the children will learn to identify shapes and their attributes, solve problems using shapes. We will be working on learning more about our shapes through art and games. In language- we will be working on developing expressive and receptive language.

 

Family Engagement Activity: Bring in something red for our red food taste test 4/16-4/20.

3s:

 

This month we will be working on alphabet knowledge: children recognize and identify letters and make letter sound connections.

 

Classroom Special Events: Week of the young child 4/16-4/20

 

Family Engagement Activity: Easter egg craft- We will be sending home a blank Easter egg paper for families to color together.

 

 

4s:

 

This month we will be focusing on science: children will explore the characteristics of objects and materials that are living, non-living, man-made, or naturally occurring. We will be learning about dinosaurs, recyclables and exploring seeds and plants. In math, children will learn to order and sort objects by common attributes to identify patterns and to predict the next sequence in a pattern.

 

Family Engagement Activity: Let’s Recycle! You along with your family will need to look around your home for recyclable items, such as water bottles, paper towel rolls,, etc. Now comes the fun part- use your imagination and create a masterpiece using all of the items you collected along with and any other materials you need to use (such as tape, glue..) Bring your creation in on April 19 for show and tell.

Happy birthday to… No Birthdays this month!!

 

 

Pre-K:

 

This month we will be learning about dinosaurs and their habitats to understand the characteristics and differences between habitats for people and habitats for animals. We will also speculate ways the dinosaurs became extinct. We will also learn how to keep our earth clean by learning about recycling, reuse and reduces. We will use observable characteristics to describe and categorize physical objects and materials.

 

Family Engagement:  We will be asking the parents to help your child create art by only using recyclable items.

 

Classroom Special Events We will be putting on a play: The Wonderful Book” date to be determined. We will also be collecting recyclables for the month of April.

 

Happy birthday to… Henry on 4/1 and Sam on 4/12!!!!

 

 

 

K-Prep and Kindergarten:

 

This month we will continue exploring science: children explore the characteristics of objects and materials that are living, non-living, man-made or naturally occurring. In literacy- children will work on emergent writing. Children use writing to represent and communicate ideas in a variety of contest, they sue a combination of drawing, dictation and writing to communicate. They participate in shared writing.

 

Family Engagement Activity:  Take home & return- “Family of the Sun” Activity Pack, which is a solar system themed bag with an ordering the planets space memory, solar system book and a parent response journal. We will also be having and Earth Day scavenger hunt. Please complete at least 3 of the 5 Earth day activities list on the scavenger hunt sheet due April 21

 

Classroom Special Events: Earth day friendship fruit salad- children will help prepare a fruit salad to be shared with the class.
