February 2019 – Newsletter – East Greenwich

This month we will have Child Outreach here screening the children that are 3 years old and older and live in North Kingstown.  The screening will be taking place on Monday, Feb. 4th and Tuesday Feb. 5th.  If you have not received a permission packet for your child, please let me know.

 

Kindergarten will not be taught the week of Feb.19 thru Feb. 22.  However, the classroom will be open and Ms. Tynicka has planned fun free centers all week.

 

We will soon be scheduling an open house in March for our 2019-2020 Kindergarten and K-Prep program.  Date and time will soon be posted.

 

Celebrating a birthday this month is Ms. Sabrina in young 4s on 2/13,  Ms. Brenda in young 4s on 2/17 and Ms. Erin in Crawlers on 2/24.  Happy Birthday!!!

 

 

Infants:

 

This month we will continue to promote positive relationships and trust with caregivers. We are also encouraging the children to work with their fine motor skills. The babies will be encouraged to turning objects with their hands, such as blocks, rattles and different toys.

 

Family Engagement Activity: We would like everyone to wear red and pink on 2/14.

 

Classroom Special Event: Valentines pancake party on 2/14!

 

Happy 1st birthday to Benjamin on 2/1!!!! Happy Birthday!!

 

 

 

Crawlers:

 

This month we will continue to work on our self help skills such as learning to feed ourselves and becoming accustomed to our routines.  Children develop small muscle control, strength and coordination.  We will be encouraging children to pick up small things with using their index finger and thumb.

 

Family Engagement Activity: Decorate a heart with things your child loves and bring it in. You could put pictures of favorite things on a heart.

 

Classroom Special Events:  Valentine’s Day pancake lunch, Thurs. Feb. 14th.

 

 

 

Toddlers:

 

This month we will be working on literacy, comprehension and interest. We will demonstrate this by pointing to animal pictures in books and making the noise they make. We will also encourage the children to feel comfortable in their classroom and look at their caregivers for guidance, safety, comfort and love.

 

Family Engagement Activity: We will send home hearts to decorate of thing your child loves to do during the winter months for our Valentine board.

 

Classroom Special Activity: PJ party for Feb.14, bring in your favorite treat for your class to share on Valentine’s day.  Happy birthday to Vivienne on 2/24!!!

 

 

 

Older Toddlers/Young 3s

 

This month in mathematics, the children will learn to identify shapes and their attributes, solve problems using shapes and explore the positions of objects in space. We will be doing this with learning our shapes.  In science the children will be making simple predictions.

 

Family Engagement Activity: We are still asking for parents to create a snowman for our “Do You Want To Build A Snowman” board.

 

Classroom Special Events: Valentine’s day Pajama party on Feb.14. Happy birthday to Darcie on 2/18 and Emily on 2/22!

 

 

3s:

 

We will begin working on physical health and motor development. One healthy habit we will start is our Two Bite Club. This will encourage friends to try new foods and expand their food choices. In social and emotional we will work on our relationships with others as we learn about friendships and how to share with one another.

 

Family Engagement Activity:  Our class has been reading the “Gingerbread Man on the Loose”.  We are sending home our gingerbread men with a letter to give to family or friends to see what kind of adventure our Gingerbread friends have when they are on the loose.

 

Classroom Special Events:  Valentine’s Party on Thurs. Feb. 14. Please keep an eye out for details.

 

 

Young 4s:

 

This month’s focus is caring for ourselves our bodies and feelings in doings so we will be introducing the Two Bite Club, where children will be encouraged to try at least 2 bites of a new food.  We will continue to encourage the children to develop the ability to express and regulate their own emotions. We will also work on gain awareness of how they relate to their family, community, understand social roles and responsibilities and recognize and respect similarities and differences in people.

 

Family Engagement:  The classroom board will have conversation hearts posted. Please leave a positive/kind word or phrase to describe your child on his or her heart.

 

Classroom Special Activity: On Thursday, Feb. 14, children can wear pink or red for Valentine’s Day. We will be having a card exchange on this day.  Any child wanting to participate can bring in 1 card per classmate to pass out during afternoon snack time.

 

 

 

Pre-K:

 

This month we will finish up our lesson on the water cycle and make complex observations about events in their environment ex: the rain, snow, and hail.  We will also learn how to keep our teeth healthy. We will also learn what it means to be a friend and how to show concern and comfort a friend when they are hurt or upset.

 

Family Engagement Activity:  We ask each child to bring in a new food to try(must be healthy) in class. If your child tries each food, they will receive a Two Bite Club certificate.  Please let us know if your child has any allergies we should be aware of. 

 

Classroom Special Events:  We will be having a classroom play “The Wonderful Book”. Date to be determined.

 

 

 

 K-Prep/Kindergarten:

 

This month the students will continue to work in math and develop recognition and counting skills. They will also learn the relationship between numbers and the quantity they represent.  In social studies the students will be learning about geography and understand the concepts of time and place.

 

Family Engagement Activity:  Treats for your sweets- Valentines day pretzel bake sale 2/13 and 2/14. Exploring Geography with Flat Stanley, we will be sending Flat Stanley home by Feb.1st so you can choose where he can be sent. American Presidents- research 2 fun facts about the president of your choice. Famous African American Research- Research why the person you choose is famous.

 

Classroom Special Events: 100th day of school party- dress like a 100 year old, bring 100 objects in a large gallon storage bag for Feb. 5.
