January 2019 – Newsletter – Smithfield

Welcome to the month of January!

 

 

We will be closed Tuesday January 1st in the celebration of the new year and on Jan 21st for Martin Luther King Day!

 

We would like to wish everyone a happy holiday.

 

A warm welcome to our Stork’s Nest Family, Ms. Alexis and Ms. Sabrina.

 

 

We would like to wish these staff members a very Happy Birthday: 1/11 Ms. Rhonda (crawlers), 1/21 Ms. Alyssia (fours), 1/22 Ms. Carla (older toddlers), 1/29 Ms. Sabrina (threes) and 1/29 Ms. Rose (infants).

 

 

 

Infant Room A and B:

 

Children will develop traveling skills. Children will also develop trust in and engage positively with adults.

 

 

Family Engagement: Ask families to bring in a family picture of winter fun for our family board.

 

 

Classroom Special Events: Closed new years eve and New Year’s Day.

Infant Room C:

 

Children will develop the ability to control impulses. Children will understand, follow and use appropriate social and conversational rules.

 

 

Family Engagement: Make a family snowman.

 

 

Classroom Special Events: New years art.

 

 

Crawler Room A and B:

 

Children will use increasingly complex vocabulary, grammar and syntax to express thoughts and needs by practicing new words both verbally and through simple sign language. Children’s skills will also increase at adjusting to changes in demands, priorities and perspectives by participating in more, complex pretend play with teacher support.

 

 

Family Engagement: Please bring in a family photo.

Younger Toddler Room A:

 

Children will feed themselves with a spoon ad fork (with some spilling) if early self-help skills are valued and taught in their family culture. Children will also make movements and sounds in response to cues in songs and fingerplays.

 

 

Family Engagement: Children will decorate a snowflake with their family. Ms. Alex will hang them up in the classroom.

 

 

Student/Staff Birthdays: 1/26 Grace

 

 

 

Younger Toddler Room B:

 

Children will practice walking on tiptoes without help. Children will also make intentional scribbles and shapes when offered paper and crayons or other writing instruments and show their drawings to others.

 

 

Family Engagement: Decorate a snowflake due Jan 18th.

 

 

Student/Staff Birthdays: 1/9 Grant, 1/12 Braydon, 1/12 Greyson

 

 

 

Older Toddlers Room:

 

Children will be able to put three or four pieces into a puzzle board. Children will also understand how to take turns during play with other children, with adult guidance and assistance.

 

 

Family Engagement: On black paper create a snowy night using white paint, please add your home in the picture as well.

Three’s Room:

 

Children will recognize and identify letters and make letter sound connections. We will be working with the children on the letters in their names. Children will learn about logic and reasoning. We will be discussing where snow comes from and why it melts.

 

 

Family Engagement: Family culture: Cook or bake a dish of your favorite food from your culture with your child to bring in for the class (no nuts)

 

 

Classroom Special Events: New Year’s Celebration

Fours Room:

 

Children will explore the characteristics of an object and materials that are living, non-living, man-made, or naturally occurring. This month we will be discussing topics such as the water cycle, hibernation and endangered species. Children will also understand concepts of time (past, present, and future) and place. The children will be introduced to famous American people that have lived in the past and famous people that are living today.

 

 

Family Engagement: Making a Snow person

Pre-K Classroom:

 

Children will develop the confidence to complete an activity or action successfully and independently. Children will also attend to, understand and respond to increasingly complex language as well as a range of topics and types of texts (including digital texts) in English.

 

 

Family Engagement: Snowflake- write and or send in photo of your favorite winter family traditions to be hung on the family engagement wall.
