July 2018 Newsletter – East Greenwich

Welcome to the month of July!

 

Special Notices:

We have a busy fun filled month!  This month we will be closed on Wednesday, July 4th in honor of Independence day.

We will have a Martial Arts Enrichment program at Stork’s Nest for the month of July.  This program is free and it is for all of the children in Young 4s to the Kindergarten classroom.  Mastery Martial Arts will be teaching the classes. There will be 5 classes through out the month from 2:30-3:00.  If you would like your child to participate, please fill out and sign the waiver and leave it in my tuition box or give to your child’s teacher.

This month we have also planned at least one special activity or field trip a week.  On July 3rd, pre-k and Kindergarten will be going on a field trip to the Biomes.  July 12, we will be having a Mother Nature Show, one show at 9:30, and one at 10:30. These shows will be for the children in 3s through Kindergarten.  On July 18, we will have a Bouncy House for all of the children in young toddlers through Kindergarten. On July 26, Fiddle-N-Fun will be put on a show for the children in 3s through Kindergarten and on July 30th Bjorn the Magician will be here to put on a show for the older toddlers through Kindergarten.  Please check your child’s folder for the permission slips for all of these fun events.

Through out the month, each classroom will also be participating in water play.  Please make sure your child has a baiting suit, water shoes, towel and sun-block.

Celebrating a birthday this month is Ms. Laura in Crawlers on 7/25, Ms. Brook, our floater on 7/30 and Ms. Ana in Pre-K on 7/31. Happy Birthday!!

To all our families have a happy 4th!!

 

 

Infants:

Opening Info:  This month we will be welcoming our new babies and working on developing trusting and positive relationships. We will also be working on developing large muscle control, strength and coordination.

 

Family Engagement Activity:  Have your baby wear something red, white or blue on July 3rd.

 

Classroom Special Events:  In honor of Fourth of July, we  will be learning and participating in art projects with the colors red, white and blue on July 3rd.

Crawlers:

Opening Info: We would like to welcome all our new friends to our classroom.  This month we will continue to work on developing trust and engage positively with adults.  An example of how this will be incorporated is by playing and interacting with different games and story time. We will also encourage the children to engage in positive relationships and interactions with other children. We will do this by encouraging the children to take turns.

 

Classroom Special Events: Freeze Pop Friday. Every Friday during the summer.

 

Family Engagement Activity:  Read a favorite story to your child.

 

 

 

Young Toddlers:

 

Opening Info:  This month we will be working on health and safety practices.  Children develop self-help skills by feeding themselves with forks and spoons and drinking form a cup.  Expressive Language: children will be encouraged to use increasingly complex vocabulary, grammar and syntax to express thoughts and needs.  Example: using “please” and “thank you” or combining words with gestures.

 

Classroom Special Events:  This month we will be staring water play! Please bring in swim suits and swim shoes for your child

 

Family Engagement Activity:  Please bring in a picture of your family’s favorite summer activity or vacation.

Older Toddlers:

 

Opening Info: This month we will continue to work on health and safety practices. We will encourage children to be able to identify unsafe situations and gradually learn strategies for responding to them, for example being able to respond appropriately to redirection. In social and emotional development, the goal is to have the children engage in positive relationships and interactions with other children.

 

Classroom Special Events: celebrating the fourth with fun art projects on July 3rd.

 

Family Engagement Activity: Bring in a picture of a fun family summer activity, such as at the beach, camping or a family outdoor party.

3’s Preschool:

 

Opening Info:  This month the goal is for children to gain awareness of how they relate to their family, community and being able to understand social roles and responsibilities, recognizing and respecting similarities and differences in people.  In math the children will be learning to order and sort objects by common attributes, identify patterns and predict the next sequence in a pattern.

 

Family Engagement Activity:  Bring in a photo of your family doing a favorite summer activity.

4’s Preschool:

 

Opening Info:  This month we will be working on alphabet knowledge. Children will be able to recognize and identify letters and make letter sounds.  We will also be working on  number recognition, counting skills and learn the relationship between numbers and their quantity.

 

Classroom Special Events: This month we will be talking about camping, sports and stars and stripes.

 

Family Engagement Activity:  Beach theme- together with your family, create a beach scene using materials from your name or treasures from the beach.  Bring into class on or by July 19 to share with the class.

Pre-K :

 

Opening Info: This month we will be learning about summer safety and recognize unsafe situations and also be able to tell what the consequences are of unsafe behaviors.  We will also e exploring the ocean and the creatures that live in it. The children will understand the characteristics of and differences between habitats for people and habitats for animals.

 

Classroom Special Events:  July 10 is our Teddy Bear Picnic Day!

 

Family Engagement Activity:  July 26 is aunt and uncle day!! We will have a sign up sheet for aunts and uncles to pick a time to come and read to our class.

Kindergarten and K-Prep:

 

Opening Info: This month we will continue to work on social and emotional development. Children engage in positive relationships and interactions with other children.  We will also work on literacy and emergent writing.  Children use writing to represent and communicate ideas in a variety of contexts; they sue a combination of drawing, dictating, and writing to communicate, they participate in shared writing.

 

 

Classroom Special Events: Biomes field trip on 7/3. Soda pop fireworks- we will be ding a soda pop science experiment. Please sign up if you would like to bring in a needed item by July 5th.

 

Family Engagement Activity: What are Independence Day traditions? Write about and illustrate a picture describing your family’s 4th of July traditions.
