October 2018 Newsletter – Smithfield

Welcome to the month of October!

 

 

In observance of Columbus day, we will be closed on Monday October 8th.

 

We would like to wish everyone a happy holiday and a happy Halloween.

 

Welcome to our Stork’s Nest Family Ms. Justine, Ms. Alex and Ms. Mackenzie.

 

 

Infant Room A and B:

 

Children develop small muscle control, strength and coordination. Children will also develop traveling skills.

 

Family Engagement: Decorate a pumpkin for our patch.

 

Classroom Special Events: Closed for Columbus Day. We will have a Halloween colors or costume party.

 

Student/Staff Birthdays: 10/14 Lincoln

 

 

Infant Room C:

 

Children will show interest and an understanding of a variety of literacy experiences. Young children will attend to, understand and respond to increasingly complex language.

 

Family Engagement: Make a pumpkin.

 

Classroom Special Events: Fall artwork.

 

 

Crawler Room A and B:

 

Children learn to identify shapes and their attributes, solve problems using shapes and explore the positions of objects in space by becoming familiar with simple shapes. Children will also develop small muscle control, strength and coordination by using utensils and picking up finger foods at mealtime.

 

Family Engagement: Decorate a pumpkin and return by 10/29.

 

Classroom Special Events: Halloween celebration 10/31

 

 

Younger Toddlers A and B Room:

 

Children will sort and match toys and other objects by attributes, such as color or size. Children will explore the properties of objects by grabbing them, pushing, pulling, turning them over and throwing them.

 

Family Engagement: With the leaf print that was sent home, with your child go outside and collect leaves. Glue the leaves that you collected on the paper and send it back into school.

 

Classroom Special Events: Halloween party!

 

 

Older Toddlers Room:

 

Children will observe and identify natural materials. Children will demonstrate an understanding that different weather requires different clothing.

 

Family Engagement: Bring in leaves from home to make a project at school.

Three’s Room:

 

Children will learn to plan for and carry out investigations, collect, evaluate and communicate information. We will use this by exploring the inside of a pumpkin and different leaves. Children will also learn about different families and cultures.

 

Family Engagement: Favorite fall activities to share with the class.

 

Classroom Special Events: Apple and pumpkin picking outside.

 

 

Fours Room:

 

Children will become increasingly able to identify unsafe situations and gradually learn strategies for responding to them. Children will also explore the characteristics of objects that are living, non-living, man-made or naturally occurring.

 

Family Engagement: Yoga classroom- Count down to calm down. Halloween pumpkin packet.

 

Classroom Special Events: Closed 10/8 Columbus Day.

 

Student/Staff Birthdays: 10/6 Julia, 10/20 Miles
