June 2019 – Newsletter – East Greenwich

                                                  

Welcome to the month of June!!!!

 

This month we will be celebrating our Kindergarten, K-Prep and Pre-K graduation.  The graduations will be held on Friday, June 21st at the Impossible Dream Playground in Warwick.  The ceremony will be starting at 11:30.  We are asking parents to only arrive as early as 11:00. More information will be posted in the classrooms.

 

On Friday, June 7th we will be having an Alex’s Lemonade Stand.  We will be selling lemonade and bake goods to help raise money for childhood cancer.  Please stop by and help us support this good cause.

 

Our Big Summer Move will be on Monday June 24th.  Some children will be moving up that day to their new rooms and some will be moving up in September.  If you are not sure if your child is moving up, please ask your child’s teachers.  The summer program will start the week of June 24th.  All rooms will start doing water play.  Please bring in a towel, sunscreen, and water shoes for your child.

 

We would like to wish all of our amazing dads a wonderful Father’s Day!!

 

Celebrating a birthday this month is Ms. Angela in crawlers on 6/11, Ms. Dayna our floater on 6/18 and Ms. Stephanie in toddlers on 6/22. Happy Birthday!!!!

 

Infants:

 

This month we will continue to encourage develop awareness of “our own body” and their own environment.  We will be doing this by encouraging the babies to twist, roll, crawl, grab things and transforming objects from hand to hand and self feeding.  We will also work on developing sense of trust and attachment, while also recognizing familiar people and expressing affection towards others.

 

Classroom Special Events: Working on Father’s Day projects.

 

Crawlers:

 

This month we will be exploring science: children will explore characteristics of  objects and material that are living and non living,  man-made or naturally occurring. We will also explore different art projects.

 

Family Engagement Activity: Bring in a favorite book to read. Something they may read with dad or grandpa at night.

 

Classroom Special Events:  Freeze Pop Friday is beginning on June 27. Please be sure to sign the permission slip for your child in our classroom.

 

 

 

Toddlers:

 

This month we will continue to work with language development, receptive language. We will be doing this by pointing to an object and encouraging the child to name it and share the attention.  We will also work with pragmatic communicate vocally or use nonverbal strategies to communicate when interacting with an adult.

 

Family Engagement Activity:  Bring in a picture of “Dad and Me” for our Father’s day board.

Older Toddlers/Young 3s:

 

This month we will be working on social and emotional development- sense of self. Children develop the confidence to complete an action successfully or independently. In social and emotional development, children develop the ability to control impulses.

 

Family Engagement Activity:  Take a picture of your family on a “nature walk” bring something from walk to show our friends.

 

Classroom Special Events: We will be having an ABC Mac and Cheese day, date to be determined.

3s:

 

This month we will explore our cognitive development as well as working memory. We will observe cause and effect reactions by rolling cars and other objects at different levels to see increased speed and measure the length in which they travel.  We will also engage in team play requiring several sequential actions such as kicking a ball, running and stopping.  We will experiment and participate in Creative Arts by exploring different instruments to see the sound differences and decide what we like most.

 

Family Engagement Activity:  We will be sending home a journal page for a “Summer Bucket List” in which families can work together talking about things they would like to do this summer.  We will take all the bucket lists and chart all the summer ideas to see how many overlap.

 

Classroom Special Events:  Donuts with Dad- Thursday June 13 at 2:45.

Young 4s:

 

This month we will continue to work on self help skills, such as opening snacks, getting dressed by themselves and asking for help when needed. We will also work on developing the ability to control impulses.

 

Family Engagement Activity: A list of fun free or inexpensive family treats will be sent home. Just get outside and enjoy the day light as a family.

 

Classroom Special Events:  Donuts with Dad – Friday, June 14 from 8:45 to 9:30.  June 21 is our Field day and picnic. More details to follow.

 

 

Pre-K:

 

We will be exploring space and continue our discussion about gravity.  They will make increasingly complex observation about the different planets in comparison to earth. We will also be discussing summer safety, which includes being safe at the beach, pools and from the sun. We will discuss the differences between safe practices and unsafe practices. We will also discover the world of Impressionist Artists such as Renoir and Monet, and create masterpieces with watercolors.

 

Family Engagement Activity: Each child will pick a planet they would like to visit, look up one special thing about their planet and come in dressed as an alien from that planet.  Due Friday June 14th.

 

Classroom Special Events: Father’s Day Picnic/Olympics on June 13, time to be determined. Graduation will be June 21st at 11:30.

 

Happy Birthday to Sydney on 6/6, Caden on 6/6, Noah on 6/9 and Jacob on 6/10!!!!!

 

 

 

K-Prep/Kindergarten:

 

This month we will continue to work on cognitive development, working with logic and reasoning. Children apply strategies and draw upon past knowledge and experience to meet goals and solve problems.  In literacy, the children will continue to work on emergent writing. Children use writing to represent and communicate ideas in a variety of contexts. They use a combination of drawing, dictation and writing to communicate.

 

Family Engagement Activity: All About Me Posters- please bring in a poster decorated with your child’s favorite color, food, activities, as well as family info.  We will be presenting during the last week of school.

 

Classroom Special Events:  Graduation on June 21 at the Impossible Dream. Father’s Day ice cream social and field day will be on June 14. Please join us for some outdoor fun and treats as we celebrate our awesome fathers. June 6- count down to graduation.  To count down the last ten days of school, we will be having a surprise activity each day! June 17- End of the Year Pizza Party!! – applaud our class accomplishments this year; we will be having a pizza party. No lunch is needed. Just sign up to bring a goodie to share.
