July 2019 – Newsletter – East Greenwich

Welcome to the month of July!!!!

 

This month is packed with fun filled activities for the children.  Summer program lists have gone out in all of the rooms from young toddlers to Kindergarten. The forms show all of the field trips and special activities that will be happening throughout the month of July and August.  Please fill out the form and mark down the days you give your child permission to participate. Leave all forms and payments in the tuition box.  The activities start as of the week of July 8th. That week will also be the week that we will start water play.  All of the rooms participate in water play. Please make sure your child has his/her baiting suit, towel, water shoes and sunscreen. We will re-apply sunscreen on the children in the afternoons but ask that you apply sunscreen in the morning before coming to school.  Each room has specific water play days and times.  Please ask your child’s teachers for their schedule.

 

We will be closed for the 4th of July holiday on Thursday, 7/4 and Friday, 7/5.  Enjoy the holiday and the long weekend.

 

Celebrating a birthday this month is Ms. Shyanne in Crawlers on 7/25 and Ms. Ana in Pre-K on 7/31! Happy Birthday!

 

 

Infants:

 

This month the children will continue to develop an awareness of their own bodies as well as their environment.  We will be doing this by allowing children to explore by mouthing, banging as well as welcoming mirror play and talking about their features.  We will also start teaching about object permanence by partly covering objects and encouraging children to look for the object

 

Classroom Special Events: Let’s Make Fireworks!! We will be making firework footprints with the children.

 

 

Crawlers:

 

This month we will be working on cognitive flexibility by helping the children’s skills increase at adjusting to change in demands, priorities, and perspectives We will also be working on the children’s inhibitory control where the children’s skills increase in filtering impulses and sustaining attention to tasks.

 

Family Engagement Activity: What is your favorite thing to do on the fourth of July? Please write down any family traditions and bring it in to add to our classroom bulletin board.

 

Classroom Special Events:  Our “Happy Birthday America!!” Party will be July 3. Please celebrate with us by having the children wear red, white, and blue!! Happy 1st birthday to Annalise 7/19, Phoenix 7/25, and Annabelle 7/27!!

 

 

Toddlers:

 

This month we will concentrate on the arts. The children will gain appreciation for and participate in creative art. We will be creating with markers, crayons, paint and even chalk.  In science the children will be learning to plan for and carry out investigations and to collect, evaluate and communicate information. We will have the children try to solve problems such as how to twist the knob on a wind-up toy, or pulling on an adults hand for guidance and showing us what they need.

 

Family Engagement Activity: Read a nighttime story and take a picture to share in class.  Happy Birthday to Avery on 7/20!!

 

 

Older Toddlers/Young 3s:

 

This month we will work on social and emotional development. Encouraging the children to develop trust in their teachers and feel safe in their classroom.  In social and emotional development, children develop trust in and engage positively with adults who are familiar and consistently present in children’s lives. We will also be working with language development.

 

Family Engagement Activity:  Fill out your child’s All About Me paper and bring in for us to share with the class.

 

Classroom Special Events: 4th of July party on 7/3. Happy birthday to Jackson S. on 7/11, Damarii on 7/17, Lilliana on 7/27 and Tristan on 7/28!!!!

 

 

3s:

 

This month we will work on social studies as we learn a new daily routine and become aware of the rules within our new classroom environment as well as increase our personal self help skills and independence.  We will also work to expand our cognitive development skills to better communicate things that happened earlier in the day as well as learn the layout of the classroom to know where things are kept so they can be easily get them or return them to the proper place.

 

Family Engagement Activity:  To kick off our summer we will be sending home a summer bucket list to work on. Feel free to decorate and write your summer plans. We will share our “buckets” at center time and chart the activities to see how many friends have the same fun choices.

 

Classroom Special Events:  Water play starts soon. Please send your child dressed for water play as well as bring in a towel and water shoes.  Please keep an eye out for our schedule.

 

 

Young 4s:

 

This month we will be working on engaging in structured and unstructured physical activity. We will also be working on self help skills.

 

Family Engagement Activity: Do you and your family have a summer bucket list? Together come up with a list of 3-5 things you would like to do as a family. Then color the picture of the bucket and add (write) your list on the bucket. Return it to class on or by July 10th.

 

Classroom Special Events: Welcome new friends and families to young 4s. We will work on classroom expectations and learning through play. Each week will be themed to add a fun exciting element to learning. 6/24-28, theme is stars and stripes. We are getting ready to celebrate the 4th of July.  July 1-3, theme is superhero week. Happy Birthday to Nolan on 7/7, Henry on 7/10, Daniel on 7/14 and Amira on 7/22!!!

 

 

Pre-K:

 

This month we will be exploring the great outdoors. We will talk about what type of animals live in the wild and how the pioneers also lived in the wild to help demonstrate awareness or cultural stories.  We will also be having a summer Pre-K Olympics. The children will compete in fun outdoor games as teams and as individuals to help learn about taking turns and also get a sense of pride in their accomplishments. We will also revisit the works of Eric Carle, his style of writing, and his illustrations so they may enjoy and engage in book reading, book writing, illustrations and other literacy related activities.

 

Family Engagement Activity: We will ask families to go on a hike/walk with your child, collect various natural things you find interesting. Then make a collage, more information regarding this activity will soon be posted in the classroom.

 

Classroom Special Events: Teddy Bear Picnic- date to be determined, Olympic Games- date to be determined.  Happy Birthday to Madelyn on 7/25!!!!

 

 

K-Prep/Kindergarten:

 

This month we will be working on literacy and alphabet knowledge. Children will be able to recognize and identify letters and make letter sound connections. In social studies, we will be working on children gaining awareness of how they relate to their families and communities, understand social roles, responsibilities, and recognize and respect similarities and differences in people.

 

Family Engagement Activity:  Children will pick and ocean animal to research and present 3 facts about it to the class due July 19.

 

Classroom Special Events: Wear red, white or blue on July 3rd ,  also bring in a red, white or blue treat to share with the class. Happy birthday to Lucy on 7/23!!!!!
