May 2019 – Newsletter – Smithfield

Welcome to the month of May!

 

The center will be closed on Monday May 27th in the observance of Memorial Day. We would like to wish everyone a happy holiday.

 

May 12th is Mother’s Day, we would like to wish all the mothers out there a happy Mother’s Day!!

 

Also, a big thank you to all of our hard-working teachers!! (Teacher appreciation week May 6th-10th)

 

We would like to welcome to our Stork’s Nest Family Ms. Destiny, Ms. Ann Marie and Ms. Cristine.

Infant Room A and B:

 

Children will babble and smile to show their interest in other children. Children will also sustain physical activity for at least 3 to 5 minutes at a time.

 

 

Family Engagement: Bring in a picture of mother and child.

Infant Room C:

 

Children will develop trust in and engage in positively with adults who are familiar and consistently present in children’s lives. Children will also gain an awareness of how they relate to their family and community, understand social roles and responsibilities and recognize and respect similarities and differences in people.

 

 

Family Engagement: Send home flower seeds for families to plant. Encourage them to take a picture of the activity to share with the class.

 

 

Classroom Special Events: Mother’s Day projects

 

 

 

Crawler Room A and B:

 

Children will develop large muscle control, strength and coordination by taking part in active play. Children will also engage in positive relationships and interactions with other children through playing together in small groups.

 

 

Family Engagement: Mother’s Day project, bring in family photo if you have not already.

Younger Toddler Room A:

 

Children will recognize some body parts. Children will also explore representations of living things (ex. Referring to a stuffed animal as a “doggy”).

 

 

Family Engagement: Bring in a family photo or a picture of your pet to put on the wall. Color your child’s favorite animal together!

Younger Toddler Room B:

 

Children will engage in positive interactions with their friends while supervised. Children will also recognize that there are one or two of the same thing.

 

 

Family Engagement: Bring in a picture of your mother (or grandmother) for the class.

 

 

Classroom Special Events: Mother’s Day tea May 10th

 

 

 

Older Toddlers Room:

 

Children will develop trust in and engage in positively with adults who are familiar and consistently present in children’s lives. Children will also increase skills at adjusting to changes in demands, priorities and perspectives.

 

 

Family Engagement: Bring in a stuffed animal during the month of May to share during circle time with the class.

 

 

Classroom Special Events: Cinco de Mayo party May 3rd

Three’s Room:

 

Children will learn to plan and carry out investigations and collect, evaluate and communicate information as we watch the life cycle of ladybugs and discuss the changes every day. Children will also learn a sense of self, community and family.

 

 

Family Engagement: Planting seeds together.

 

 

Classroom Special Events: Mother’s Day tea party.

 

 

 

Fours Room:

 

Children will demonstrate an awareness of and appreciation for personal characteristics. Children will also make observations about the characteristics of living things.

 

 

Family Engagement: Please bring in a picture of your child and mother or grandmother.

Pre-K Classroom:

 

Children will explore the characteristics of objects and materials that are living, non-living, man-made or naturally occurring. Observe the similarities, differences and categories of plants and animals. Children will attend to, understand and respond to increasingly complex language. Respond to appropriately specific and varied vocabulary.
