April 2019 – Newsletter – East Greenwich

Welcome to the month of April!!

 

This month we will be celebrating the Week of the Young Child 4/8 – 4/12. That week we will have five fun filled themed days to celebrate young children and their families.  All of the classrooms from crawlers to Kindergarten will be participating.

 

Kindergarten will not be taught the week of 4/15 – 4/19 for Spring break. However, the class will be open regular hours and “spring camp” will be in session.

 

We will be having our annual Scholastic Book Fair on 4/22- 4/26.  Please stop by to see the great selection of books available.

 

The Pre-K, K-Prep and Kindergarten classroom will be going on a field trip to the RI Resource Recovery Center on 4/25. The bus will be picking up the children at 8:00 and dropping them off at 12:00. The children will be having their lunch in their classroom.

 

Celebrating a birthday this month is Ms. Michelle in pre-k on 4/1. Happy Birthday!!

 

Infants:

 

This month we will continue to work on positive relationships and developing our fine motor skills.

 

Family Engagement Activities: We are continuing to collect sensory bottles. Thank you so much to the parents that have brought them in. We really appreciate it.

 

Classroom Special Events: We are going to have an Easter Egg Hunt on 4/19/10.  Happy 1st birthday to Sophia on 4/1, Gia on 4/5 and Colin on 4/24!

 

Crawlers:

 

(Science) Children learn to plan for and carry out investigations and collect, evaluate, and communicate information. To encourage this, we will be making a “garden” in a bag.

 

(Social Studies) Children understand concept of time past, present, future and place.  We will be working on our routines more and more.

 

Family Engagement Activity: Parents please bring in a family photo for our “Families Are Special” board.

 

Classroom Special Events: Easter Egg Hunt, April 19th in our classroom. Week of the Young Child, April 8th-12th. Lots of fun activities planned.

 

Toddlers:

 

(Fine Motor Development) We will be practicing this by stacking two or three blocks high.

 

In Social and Emotional- children will learn to trust their caregivers and come to us when they are upset or hurt. We will encourage them to feel comfortable and safe.

 

Family Engagement Activity: Bring in one of your child’s favorite spring or Easter book for us to read in the classroom.

 

Classroom Special Events: Week of the Young Child – 4/8 -4/12. On April 9, please bring in a healthy snack to share with friends.

Older Toddlers/Young 3s:

 

This month we will continue to practice safety practices and develop self help skills. We will continue to taste test new foods, continue to wash our hands without assistance, dress and undress without assistance and wipe noses.

 

In social studies- the children gain awareness of how they relate to their families, communities, understand social roles and responsibilities, also recognize and respect differences.  We will be implementing this with games and role playing activities. 

 

Family Engagement Activity:  Take a picture of your family engaging in a pretend play activity at home and email it to sncaoldertoddlers@gmail.com.

 

Classroom Special Events:  April 19th, Easter party and Easter Egg hunt.  Happy birthday to Alden on 4/15 and Connor on 4/26!!

 

 

3s:

 

This month we will work on social studies as we learn about Earth day and all the things we can do to help protect the earth.  We will continue working on cognitive development and flexibility as well as working memory. We will be doing this as we capture more of their words on ideas on our journal pages and in weekly reviews.

 

Family Engagement Activity: We will be sending home an Earth Day Scavenger Hunt as well as send home the gingerbread people to  capture a photo of them enjoying the outdoors with friends and family.

 

Classroom Special Events: We will celebrate Earth Day by doing an outdoor cleanup to prepare for planting. Please keep your eyes open for dates.

 

 

Young 4s:

 

Children become increasingly able to identify unsafe situations and gradually learn strategies for responding to them.  Children learn to plan for and carry out investigations and to collect, evaluate and communicate information.

 

Family Engagement Activity: Using recycled materials, you and your child can use your imagination to create a work of art. Details will soon be provided the first week of April.

 

Classroom Special Events: We will be celebrating the Young Child April 8-12. If you would like to come in as a mystery guest (to read to our class or do an activity) please se Ms. Brenda for the day and time.  Happy birthday to Andrew on 4/7, Marcel on 4/11 and Reagan on 4/14!!

 

Pre-K:

 

This month we will celebrate Earth. We will talk about the importance of recycling and the dangers of pollution to demonstrate awareness of rules and outcome of our choices.  We will also start learning about dinosaurs, their habits and theories of how they became extinct.

 

Also, since the warm weather will soon be upon us, we will go over sun safety and review fire safety and stranger danger.

 

Family Engagement Activity:  Recycle Art- work with your child to create an abstract art. Please use only recycled materials. Due date to be determined. 

 

Classroom Special Events:  Easter Breakfast and Egg hunt on April 19.

 

 

K-Prep/Kindergarten:

 

Science-knowledge of science concepts- children explore the characteristics of objects and materials that are living, non-living, man-made or naturally occurring.

 

Literacy- Emergent Writing- Children use writing to represent and communicate ideas in a variety of contexts, they use a combination of drawing, dictating and writing to communicate: they participate in shared writing.

 

Family Engagement Activity:  Take home and return “Family of the Sun” activity pack. This is a solar system themed bag with an ordering the planets space memory, solar system book and parent response journal.  Earth Day Scavenger Hunt- complete at least 3 of the 5 Earth day activities listed on the Scavenger Hunt sheet due April 22.

 

Classroom Special Events: Earth Day Friendship fruit salad. Children will help prepare a fruit salad to be shared with the class due 4/22.
