October 2019 – Newsletter – East Greenwich

Welcome to the month of October!!  

 

October is always a busy month for us and filled with fun activities.

 

On Friday, Oct. 11 we have the Flu Clinic here from 3:00 to 5:00 for anyone that is 19 years old and older.  Please feel free to stop by and get your flu shot. 

 

On Monday, October 14 we will be closed for Columbus Day

 

Our Parent Board Meeting will be having their first meeting this school year on Oct. 16.  The meeting will be held at the Corporate Office on 1100 Tollgate Rd. from 6:30 to 7:30. 

 

Oct. 17 and 18 will be our Pink day and bake sale.  We will be selling baked goods to help raise money for Breast Cancer.  Please stop by and buy a cookie for this great cause.

 

We will be having our Open House on Oct. 23 from 5:15 to 6:15.  Please stop by and see the classrooms, talk to other parents and ask the teachers any questions you may have regarding your child’s room. Tumble Bus will also be here during our Open House for the children to explore and parents to see what it is all about.

 

Oct. 23 is also the day our Pre-K, K-prep and Kindergarten classroom will be going on their Pumpkin picking field trip to Pezza Farm.  The bus will be leaving here at 9:00 and returning at 12:00. The children will be eating their lunch here at the center.

 

On October 29th the teachers will be having a Halloween Door contest that you can help vote on. The doors will be voted on creativity and children involvement. We will have you vote on our SNCA facebook page.  All classrooms will be having their Halloween party on Oct. 31st. Please check with your child’s classroom for details.  Children can come dressed in their Halloween costume.  Please no scary masks or “weapons”.  We will be changing the children into their regular clothes after the festivities. Please make sure your child has clothes to change into. 

 

Celebrating a birthday this month is Ms. Clara in Infants on 10/6 and Ms. Tynicka in Kindergarten on 10/24!!!! Happy Birthday!!!

 

Infants:

 

Develop awareness of our own body and their environment. The students will be working on their small and large motor skills by learning to control muscles and learn to pick up, hold and move things around.  We will also be working on two-way communication.  We will teach that words have meaning and that caregivers will respond to a baby’s sound. The use of positive responses by caregiver when new skill is performed gains the baby’s confidence.

 

Family Engagement: Pink day, Friday, Oct. 18.  Have your child wear pink for breast cancer awareness.

 

Classroom Special Events:  Halloween party on 10/31, feel free to wear you costume.  Happy 1st birthday to Harry on 10/2 and Mia on 10/16!!!!

 

 

Crawlers:

 

This month we will continue to work on social and emotional.  Children develop trust in and engage positively with adults who are familiar and consistently present in their lives.  We will also work on encouraging the children to building positive interactions and relationships among one another.

 

Family Engagement Activity:  Please decorate the acorn that we will be sending home with things you and your child like to do in the fall. We will be decorating our classroom board with these acorns.

 

Classroom Special Events:  Apple tasting on Friday Oct.4th See what color apple the children prefer. Please let us know if your child can not participate in the apple tasting. Wear pink on 10/18 for Pink day, breast cancer awareness day. Happy 1st birthday to Grace C. on 1-/5!!!

 

 

Toddlers:

 

This month in mathematics, children will learn to order and sort objects. This will be encouraged using puzzles, discovering which piece goes where and putting toys back in the correct shelf. The children will also be experimenting and participating in creative arts.  We will be painting more and soon will be coloring and creating with chalk on our new chalkboard wall in our room.

 

Family Engagement Activity:  bring in some fall leaves to make a collage in class.  Wear pink for Pink Day on 10/18.

 

Classroom Special Events:  Oct. 31 is our Halloween pajama day party.  Please look for a sign-up sheet.  Happy birthday to Otis on 10/3, Adeline on 10/3 and Ira on 10/16!!!

 

 

 

Older Toddlers/Young 3s:  

 

This month we will be doing many different science projects. The children will be exploring with pumpkins. They will get to touch and feel the inside of a pumpkin and then the children will be cooking with pumpkins and tasting them.  We will also work and attention and inhibitory control. Children’s skills increase in filtering impulses and sustaining attention on a task.  We will be working on children being able to follow a two step direction.

 

Family Engagement Activity:  Make a paper Jack-O-Lantern with your family at home using “creative junk” and bring it in to display.  Oct. 18 is pink day for breast cancer awareness. Please wear pink.

 

Classroom Special Events: Halloween Party on 10/31.

 

 

 3s:

 

This month we will be exploring the characteristic of objects and materials in science.  We will also continue to work in language developing by encouraging the children to use expressive language.

 

Family Engagement Activity: (Dates to follow) Bring in an item for show and tell that start with the letters F, E and H. Please bring in a family picture of your family enjoying a favorite fall activity.

 

Classroom Special Events: Wear pink for pink day on 10/18!! Halloween party on 10/31- please wear your pajamas under your Halloween costume. We will have a Halloween pajama party after we take off our costumes.

 

 

 Young 4s:

 

This month we will begin with learning about fire safety as the children will learn more about unsafe situations and what they can do by practicing safety drills.  In the world of science we will be talking about fall and its many changes. Children will learn to plan for and carry out investigations as well as collect, evaluate and communicate the information they found in journaling.

 

Family Engagement Activity:  To extend our learning, we ask that you talk at home about our fire safety lessons and what to do at home if there were a fire, where would you meet?  Also please bring in one small pumpkin by 10/10 for decoration and to display in our class.

 

Classroom Special Events:  On Oct. 31 will be our Halloween Spooktacular. Please bring your child to school dressed up (no masks) and with a change of clothes that can get messy as we have many fun activities planned.  Keep and eye out for our Halloween party sign-up sheet.  Happy birthday to Jake S. on 10/7!!!!

 

 

Pre-K:

 

This month we will continue to work on recognizing and identifying letters and letter sound connections. Children will engage in positive relationships and interactions with other children. We will be focusing on the changes that come with fall.  We will explore leaves, pumpkins and the weather as an overall theme. More focused goals will be working on recognizing names in print, writing their names and recognizing and identifying letters. Another area of focus will be our interactions with others, noticing and showing concern for our peers’ feeling and conflict resolution

 

Family Engagement Activity: Nature Scavenger Hunt- details will soon follow.

 

Classroom Special Events: Wear pink on 10/18 for breast cancer awareness day. Oct. 31 is our Halloween party.  Children can come dressed in their costume (school appropriate) Please have your child wear his/her clothes underneath the costume.

 

 

K-Prep/Kindergarten:

 

This month we will be focusing on literacy. Through phonological awareness: children will notice and discriminate the sound of spoken language. We will also be working on fine motor development.

 

Family Engagement Activity:  October 23 is our Pumpkin picking trip to Pezza Farms. All children attending the field trip must arrive at school by 8:30 to allow for morning snack, bathroom breaks and getting ready to leave promptly for 9:00. Chaperones are welcome but do need to travel in their own vehicle. Open House is on Oct. 23 come join us for a Q and A session and get a closer look into the K classroom.

 

Special Events: During the week of 10/7 -10/11 will be Apple Fiesta week.  We will be taste testing and baking various types of apples. Please see our sign-up if you would like to contribute. Oct. 31 will be our Halloween party. Children can come dressed in their costumes. Please bring in clothes for the children to change in. Happy birthday to Julia H. on 10/6, Callie W. on 10/20 and Brielle W. on 10/26!!!
