October 2019 – Newsletter – Smithfield

Welcome to the month of October!

 

We will be closed on Monday October 14th in the observance of Columbus Day. We would like to wish everyone a safe and happy holiday.

 

Welcome to our Stork’s Nest Family Ms. Jesslynn, Ms. Cammie and Ms. Mishele.

 

 

Infant Room A and B:

 

Children will engage in positive relationships and interactions with others. Children will also gain an appreciation for and participate in the creative arts.

 

 

Family Engagement: Bring in family photos, Infants A please send pumpkin cutouts back decorated for our pumpkin patch. Please bring them in by 10/4/19.

 

 

Classroom Special Events: Thursday Oct 31st– Wear your Halloween costumes

Infant Room C:

 

Children will develop the confidence to complete an action successfully or independently. Children will also attend to, understand and respond to increasingly complex language.

 

 

Family Engagement: Family pumpkin patch

 

 

Classroom Special Events: Halloween art

 

 

 

Crawler Room A and B:

 

Children will use increasingly complex vocabulary, grammar, and syntax to express thoughts and needs by practicing new words and simple sign language. Children will also develop self-help skills through learning to use utensils at meal time.

 

 

Family Engagement: Open house Oct 24th– please join us for a fun night!

 

 

Classroom Special Events: Halloween party Oct 31st

 

 

 

Younger Toddler Room A:

 

Children will develop the ability to express and regulate their own emotions. We will be working on expressing their emotions through words. Children will also use increasingly complex vocabulary, grammar and syntax to express thoughts and needs through working on using our sign language to express needs and wants.

 

 

Family Engagement: Work with “signs” at home. Bring in family photos- including pets and anyone you consider family, up to 4-5 photos by 10/11.

 

 

Classroom Special Events: Making pumpkin muffins and painting small pumpkins. Please bring in a small pumpkin by 10/11.

 

 

 

Younger Toddler Room B:

 

Children will attend to, understand and respond to increasingly complex language. We will be working on simple one step directions like “stop”, “sit” and “slow”. Children will also apply strategies and draw upon past knowledge and experiences to meet goals and solve problems.

 

 

Family Engagement: Bring in family pics for our class family tree.

 

 

Classroom Special Events: Halloween party 10/30

 

 

 

Older Toddlers Room:

 

Children will learn to be able to recognize and name some body parts. Children will also learn to make observations about the characteristics of living things. (our pumpkin plants)

 

 

Family Engagement: Collect fall leaves for our sensory bin

Three’s Room:

 

Children will seek assistance from an adult caregiver in resolving conflicts with other children. Children will also participate in associative play with other children. (i.e. engaging in separate play activities while occasionally sharing toys or commenting on another child’s play).

 

 

Family Engagement: With the pumpkin template please decorate as much as you like.

Fours Room:

 

Children will comprehend and use new words introduced within thematic units, stones and daily activities. Children will also demonstrate an understanding of conversations by responding to questions and prompts.

Pre-K Classroom: Children will learn about health and safety practices. We will be doing a whole week on fire safety and talk about ways to stay safe. Children will also show interest and an understanding of a variety of literacy experiences. The children are going to work on telling their own story and put it into a book.

 

Family Engagement: Book Bags- Take home book bags from the library to have some fun reading and tell us what your child did and how they responded to the story.
