Welcome to the month of May!

 

This month we will be celebrating Teacher Appreciation Week the week of May 7th through May 11. I will have fun things planned for our teachers each day of that week and one day I will be involving the children to help make something special for their teachers. More information will soon be available. We can’t forget our nurse, Nurse Cara. Nurse’s day will be on May 6 and the children will be making special cards to surprise her.

 

This month we will be having a bake sale on Thursday and Friday of May 17 and May 18. The children will be baking delicious treats and selling them at the bake sale. All proceeds will be going back to their classrooms and towards fun celebrations in their rooms.

 

We will be closed on Monday, May 28th for Memorial day. Celebrating a birthday this month is: Ms. Rhiannon in young 4s on 5/7, Ms. Alyssa in young toddlers on 5/12, Ms. Julie in 3s on 5/13, Ms. Gina in older toddlers on 5/18, Ms. Brittany in Infants on 5/23 and Ms. Alex in Crawlers on 5/28!! Happy Birthday!!!!! To all our amazing moms we would like to wish you all a Happy Mother’s day!!!

 

 

Infants: 

 

This month we will continue to work on establishing trust by engaging in positive relationships with caregivers and other adults. We will also continue on working on self confidence, such as becoming more independent by being able to do certain things such as self-feeding, holding a bottle and crawling.

 

Classroom Special Events: Wear red, white or blue on Friday, May 25th in honor of Memorial day.

 

Family Engagement Activity: We would like to welcome Benjamin, Nadia and Anna to our room. Please feel free to use the notebooks in your child’s bin to let us know a little more about your child.

Crawlers:

 

This month in Social Studies, we will be helping the children gain awareness of how they relate to their families and recognize and respect similarities and differences in people through pictures. We will also be working on recognizing our structured routine.

 

Family Engagement Activity: Please send in a picture of mother and child. We will be using it for a special Mother’s day project.

 

Classroom Special Events:  We will be having a Cinco De Mayo party on Friday May 4th and preparing for a Mother’s day surprise.

Young Toddlers:

This month in Social Studies: Children gain awareness of how they relate to their families and community. We will be talking about our families and who is in it. In Math we will be working on our number recognition and counting skills. We will be practicing our numbers with our puzzles and counting fingers and toes.

 

 

Classroom Special Event:

 

 

Family Engagement Activity: Bring in a picture of you and your child reading a book during your night time routine.

Older Toddlers/Young 3s:

 

This month we will be working on Social and Emotional Development: Children engage in positive relationships and interactions with other children. We will be promoting this through play and participating in different games. In literacy, we will be encouraging the children to recognize and identify letters, such as the first letter in their name.

 

 

Family Engagement Activity: Thank you for all of the parents that participated in our Family game night!

 

Classroom Special Events: We will be having a Cinco De Mayo party on May 4th. A big thank you to the DiPietro family for bringing in Chipotle for the entire class on that day. Thank YOU!!!

3s:

 

This month in physical health and motor development: children become increasingly able to identify unsafe situations and gradually learn strategies for responding to them. In Science: children will be able to explore characteristics of objects and materials that are living, non-living, man made or naturally occurring.

 

Classroom Special Events: Mother’s day dessert on Friday 5/11. All moms please join us for cookies and special treats on 5/11 at 3:00.

 

Family Engagement Activity:

4s:

 

In social studies: children gain awareness of how they relate to their family and community, understand social roles and responsibilities and recognize and respect similarities and differences in people. Young children understand, follow and use appropriate social and conventional rules.

 

Family Engagement Activity: Let’s celebrate May and sunnier days with a nature walk. A nature scavenger hunt list with details will be sent home the first week in May. Have fun!

 

Classroom Special Events: Friday, May 11th, mom’s are invited to join us from 8:45 to 9:15 for muffins in honor of Mother’s day. Details to follow.

Pre-K:

 

This month we will be looking closely at nature. First we will study the life cycle of the flower and describe how living things change over time. We will also explore the world of insects. We will learn the parts of the body and the difference between insects and anthropoids to make observations of similarities and differences.

 

Family Engagement: 

 

Classroom Special Events Mother’s day tea on May 10th at 3:00. Pre-K moms are welcome to enjoy some tea and treats with your child.

K-Prep and Kindergarten:

 

In creative Arts, children will be experimenting and participating in different art projects to help gain an appreciation for different arts. Literacy: emergent writing- children use writing to represent and communicate ideas in a variety of contexts. they use a combination or drawing, dictation and writing to communicate. They will be participating in shared writing.

 

Family Engagement Activity:  Mother’s day tea party on 5/11. Continue Family of the Sun take home activity.

 

Classroom Special Events: Cinco De Mayo – Friday May 4th. No lunch needed. We will be trying tacos, burritos, quesadillas and nachos. A sign up will be posted on the main door. Mother’s day tea on Friday, May 11. Join us as we celebrate our fabulous mothers! The tea will be held at 10:30 in our classroom. We will be serving hot and cold tea as well as refreshments. The children will also be performing.
