Welcome to the month of May!

 

We would like to wish a Happy Mother’s Day to all of our wonderful Moms, Grandmothers, and Aunts! We hope you enjoy your day!
 

 

The month we have the following notifications. May 7th-11th- Teacher Appreciation Week! May 13th- Mother’s Day. 5/28- Memorial Day- SNCA Closed.

 

 

 

Infants:

 

We will be doing lots of tummy time play with our younger infants, strengthening neck muscles and arms. Play mat time with friends, reaching and grasping toys. Older infants will be working with each baby on crawling and standing this month as they work on pulling up on shelves and walking with push toys.

 

 

Classroom Special Events: We will continue to work on Mother’s Day gifts! Happy Mother’s Day to all our fabulous Moms!

 

 

Family Engagement: We will be decorating flowers to display in our classroom. We are asking parents who have not brought in 5 family pictures for us to use, to bring them in this month.

Crawlers:

 

This month we will focus on cognitive development as the children apply strategies and draw upon past knowledge and experiences to meet goals and solve problems. (ie. Stack and then knock down “towers” and then stack them up again). We will also focus on math skills as the children learn to use numbers to compare quantities and solve problems.

Young Toddlers:

 

This month we will focus on language development as we work on understanding basic one step directions. We will also focus on cognitive development and work on matching items, such as same size, same picture, etc.

 

 

Family Engagement: This month we will be having a Mother’s Day Breakfast! Please sign up if you plan on joining us!

Older Toddlers:

 

 

This month we will focus on Science. We will be exploring the characteristics of living and non-living things through nature walks and bug hunts! We will also work on name recognition by using name tags with their pictures and names for meals and centers.

 

 

Family Engagement: This month we will be having a Mother’s Day breakfast. Look for more information to follow.

3’s Preschool:

 

We will work on cognitive development and increase skills in filtering impulses and sustaining attention on a task by focusing on topics and materials presented, without distraction. (ie. Dumping out and completing a puzzle or staying on task with classroom centers.) In mathematics, we will work to expand our knowledge in number recognition and counting, learning the relationship between numbers and the quantity they represent. We will make use of our manipulatives and cards to facilitate this learning as well as practice our writing of numbers 1-5.

 

 

Family Engagement: Please send in pictures of each parent alone or with your child for classroom discussion and project board. Thank you!

4’s Pre-K:

 

Our focus this month will be science. We will be learning about flowers, plants and insects. We will be starting our outdoor garden from seed and learning about how flowers and plants grow. We will also be observing and recording their similarities and differences. The children will learn to plan for and carry out investigations and to collect, evaluate, and communicate information. The children will also explore the characteristics of objects and materials that are living, non-living, man-made, or naturally occurring.

 

 

Family Engagement: This month we will be asking families to help us create sensory bottles. We will send home an empty bottle for you to fill with materials from around the house. We will send home a flyer with directions and ideas. Please return the bottles by Wednesday, May 23rd.

 

 

Classroom Special Events: 5/1- RIRRC Field Trip. Please make sure to return permission slip along with $10 payment asap. 5/28- SNCA Memorial Day.

K-prep:

 

This month our focus will be physical health and motor development. The children will develop large muscle control, strength, and coordination/traveling skills. We will work on these skills as the weather gets warmer to provide ample opportunities for children to improve gross skills so that they will be able to successfully participate in age appropriate physical games and activities as required by Kindergarten curriculums. We will also focus on social and emotional and sense of self as the children gain confidence to help them become successful learners in the classroom.

Family Engagement: Plan time during the week to enjoy physical activity with your child. Get the whole family involved. Turn on some music and dance, take a walk, play a game of chase, practice throwing and catching a ball.
